Pay

What NYC city jobs really pay.

Every city job posts its starting pay. The city also publishes what everyone on its payroll earns. Here are both, side by side, so you see where a job starts and where the people in it are now.

21,387 police officers earned a median base of $109,352 in fiscal 2025. The job starts at $55,942.

Jobs with a step-by-step guide.

"Starts at" is from the exam notice or posting named in each guide. "Median now" is base salary: half the people in the title earned more, half less.

Best-paying open jobs that ask the least.
