About
How we check every fact.
togetajob.com is an independent guide to New York City government jobs for people starting out. It is free, it is not affiliated with the City of New York, and nobody pays to be listed.
Where the facts come from.
- Open jobs: the city's own job list on NYC Open Data. The site rebuilds from it every morning, and a posting the city takes down drops off the next day.
- Requirements: quoted word for word from each posting. Our plain-language label sits above the quote, and when they disagree, the quote wins.
- Exam dates: DCAS's exam schedule, checked against OASys and the Notice of Examination. A date is "confirmed" only when OASys or the notice says so; otherwise it's "planned".
- Starting pay in the guides: the newest Notice of Examination or job posting for the title, whichever is more recent. When a newer posting shows a different rate, the site switches to it on its own and says which posting it is.
- What people earn: the city's payroll data, base salary only, for titles with 20 or more people. No names are ever downloaded.
- Background facts: a few facts come from people who work in city agencies and can't be named. Those are labelled where they appear, for example "Police sources, on background".
Who runs it.
togetajob.com is run independently by its owner. The guides are written against the official sources above, and every guide links its sources and dates what it read.
