The Research, Implementation, and Safety Unit (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes.
RIS uses a data-driven approach to design and implement street safety redesign projects, administer safety programs, promote senior and youth safety, manage crash data and data applications, conduct large-scale safety research projects, and lead agency action plans related to safety and Vision Zero programs/policy.
This is an opportunity to work with a team dedicated to improving safety, accessibility, and mobility throughout New York City.
Research, Implementation & Safety (RIS) seeks experienced and motivated candidate to work in its Speed Reducer Planning and Implementation Unit.
Reporting to the Co-Director, the candidates will survey local and commercial street systems and make comprehensive recommendations for identifying the placement of speed reducers borough-wide.
Responsibilities include conducting data collection and curbside inventories; staff support and assisting with reviews related to Speed Reducers. Investigations involve data collection of traffic regulations and controls, land use, examining street operations, and other focused assignments.
Additional duties consist of data entry, maintaining databases, and preparing relevant forms, reports, memos, and logs. The candidates will be expected to work collaboratively and inclusively, contribute to maintaining a strong working team, and effectively communicate with all stakeholders.
Must be a clear and effective communicator both verbally and through written reports and correspondence.
The candidates will be responsible for ensuring adherence to all agency safety rules and regulations in creating a safe work environment for themselves and colleagues, ensuring all safety equipment and gear are used and worn properly on the work site.
