NYC Parks GreenThumb provides technical assistance, educational workshops, operational support and materials to community gardens throughout New York City. Supporting over 550 community gardens and 20,000 volunteer gardeners, GreenThumb is the largest community gardening program in the country.

Major Responsibilities

  • Under general direction of the Assistant Director of Community Engagement, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, coordinate all aspects of data collection, analysis, reporting and compliance related to registered community gardens and GreenThumb Community Engagement (GTCE) efforts. This will include but not limited to annual site visit information, licensing and registration, open hours, garden events, special projects and provision of supplies and resources.
  • Lead GreenThumb-wide efforts to synchronize, manage and improve GreenThumb’s data infrastructure and file retention across all teams, including SharePoint usage and standards, Power Automate flows, and Power Apps. To include version control, testing, deployment processes and exploration of new tools, as needed, to enhance scalability and reliability.
  • Compile, analyze and assess best ways to present data relating to community gardens and GreenThumb efforts across teams. Design and develop dashboards, internal reports, and data products, leveraging tools like Tableau.
  • Assist Community Engagement Coordinators with analysis of their individual portfolios and tracking of metrics, incorporating their user feedback to improve data processes and tools.
  • Develop processes and standard operating procedures. Collaborate across GreenThumb teams to define data needs, align on project goals, and implement scalable solutions that improve data quality, interoperability and organizational efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to colleagues, including onboarding team members, supporting users of analytical tools and promoting best practices in data collection, analysis, and visualization.
  • Communicate complex analytical methodologies and results clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through presentations, recordings, documentation, and interactive tools.
  • Support compliance efforts in community gardens in coordination with the Community Engagement team and other divisions.

Skills they'd like

  7. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and work independently or in a team environment as needed.
  8. Proficiency with managing multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
  9. Second language a plus.
